An electric kettle is the cheapest appliance that changes a daily routine. Under fifteen hundred rupees almost all of them boil 1.5 litres in four to six minutes, so the specification sheet stops being useful very quickly. What separates them is the lid and body material, whether the auto cut-off is reliable, and how the kettle behaves after a year of Indian hard water.
Three things worth deciding before you pick. A stainless steel lid matters more than a steel body, because the lid sits in the steam path and cheap plastic lids are the most common complaint in this price band. A concealed heating element is easier to descale than an exposed coil. And 1.5 litres is enough for a family; 1.8 litres is only worth it if you are boiling for more than four people at once.

The steel lid is the reason to pick this one: it is the part most rivals cheap out on. Buy it if you want the safest, most boring choice on the list.

Milton rates this at 1.8 litres rather than 1.5, and the listing claims three separate protections — dry-boil cut-off, auto shut-off at boiling point and overheat protection — plus a hundred-cycle dry test. It carries the highest rating of the four at 4.0 from over eleven thousand buyers. The extra capacity is genuinely useful if you are making tea for five, and it is the pick if you have been through a kettle that died from being switched on empty.

The same 1.8 litre capacity with a 1500W element, usually the cheapest large-capacity kettle we track, and rated 4.0 from more than eight thousand buyers. Auto shut-off and dry-boil protection are both listed. There is nothing clever here and nothing obviously missing either — this is the one to buy for a hostel room, an office pantry or a second kitchen where you do not want to think about it.

Usually the lowest price on this list, and it ships with a stainless steel water bottle alongside the kettle, which is why the listing price looks odd against the rest. Take it if price is the deciding factor; the Prestige is the better kettle if you can stretch.

What to check before you buy
Lid material. Listings often say ‘stainless steel’ about the body while the lid is plastic. The lid is what sits in the steam.
Auto cut-off is not optional. Every kettle here lists it. If a cheaper model does not mention dry-boil protection specifically, skip it — boiling an empty kettle is how most of them die.
Descaling. In hard-water cities the element scales within months. A concealed element and a wide mouth make that a five-minute job instead of a lost cause.
Cord length. Most sit around one metre. Check where your socket is before assuming the kettle will reach the counter.
